Fashion Industry

The word fashion refers to styles and customs used at a certain time. It is most commonly used to describe current popular clothing trends. The fashion industry is one of the largest industries in the world and is followed, talked about and read about everywhere. Unfortunately it’s not all good press though.

One of the biggest problems facing the fashion industry is the effect it has on society. Many advertising campaigns portray men and women as having the ‘perfect’ face and body. Not everyone on the planet is like this and this can pressurise people into trying to look this way. This can lead to eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia. Especially in young girls who look at the super skinny models in magazines and on the catwalks.
Another issues the fashion industry faces lies in sweatshops. There are many clothing manufacturers who relocate to poorer countries to avoid paying workers high wages.
